About Delivery Dates
All of our bulbs ship in the fall and must be planted in the fall. We begin delivering bulbs during the last week of September. Toward the end of the checkout process on this website, you will have the option of selecting a delivery week. If you do not select a delivery week, we will deliver your order according to your USDA Zone and the weather in your area.
Ideal Fall Planting Times

Deliveries to cold-winter areas (the northern plains, high altitudes in the Rockies) start to arrive in late September. We then work our way south (and west) as the weather cools. Southern areas like Georgia and western areas like Northern California will not see their deliveries until some time in November.
Tulips and many other spring-flowering bulbs that are to be planted in southern and western Zones 7b–10, where soil temperatures do not cool down sufficiently in winter, should be prechilled in a refrigerator (NOT a freezer) for 6–10 weeks before planting. If you have a spare refrigerator, we suggest you take delivery of your bulbs in mid-October. If you are unable to prechill your bulbs, Colorblends can prechill them for you. We charge a flat fee of $30 per order for prechilling.
Note: If you want Colorblends to prechill your bulbs, you MUST place your order by the first week of October.
The following bulbs do NOT need to be pre-chilled:
- Alliums
- Amaryllis
- Daffodils (Narcissus)
- Paperwhites
- Spanish bluebells (Hyacinthoides)
- Snowflake (Leucojum)
- Starflowers (Ipheion)
We suggest that all other bulbs be prechilled.
